It flows from the Okavango Delta to form part of the border of Moremi Game Reserve. This area is popular for the abundance of diverse concentrations of wildlife.

Considered to be one of the best game viewing areas in Botswana, the floodplains of the Khwai River are home to a wide variety of animals and birds.
